Wouter Switsers

My background and professional life in a nutshell

I am a straight forward guy and like to think out-of-the-box, set up guidelines to get things organised and I can be a very patient and attentive person. Working in teams is something I really enjoy; just as I like a company with a rather flat organisational structure. My main focus lies with a companies goals and strategies, and getting everyone engaged. Although, as a private person, I am rather introvert.

My main source of knowledge is self-study and, as goes for everyone these days, Google. Discovering new things and how they work just might be my biggest hobby.

Read more about the early days ...

From early on, I was a member of Chiro St. Lambertus Muizen, a youth organisation in Muizen (Mechelen).
There I learned what people can accomplish when they work together, or what can go wrong if they don't.

I've been a youth leader for many years and concluded my 'career' in the Chiro with a few years as a cook.
Alltogether, I've been a member for well over 20 years and a part of my social life still revolves around the Chiro.

After the chiro, a few of us started a small branch of the bigger a KWB in Muizen for people in their twenties and thirties.
This went on for a few years, but ended due to changing priorities.

I started out as a machine programmer (Siemens 810), as well as helping out with IT support.
The latter has been the common thread throughout the years and my knowledge of servers and network infrastructure has grown since.

After the first year, I evolved to a more marketing and sales support oriented role.
This has then evolved to mostly project based work: including but not limited to 3D rendering, Microsoft Navision, a B2B ordering website, intermediate between sales and external companies for the company websites, setting up Qualty Control in production, implementing Office 365, etc.

By experience

All the knowledge needed to be a good geek, from the basic build to a gaming setup with water cooling.
Both recent and older hardware.

During my job at VdB&VR, I was, together with another colleague, responsible for the maintenance of 5 servers (including 1 Hyper-V server and 1 IBM iSeries server) and about 20 computers.

The last 10 years, being part of the inhouse IT department, we were users first and final line of support.
As time progresses, users also need training, this was also part of the job.

Realisations (online)

  • B2B sales platform

  • B2B online catalog
at VdB&VR: This started out as a small trial project, but soon became a frequentlly used tool by our customers. A second version is under way.
  • B2C website
at VdB&VR: I set up requirements, coördinated development and provided data.
